My love letter to stretching.
ELIXER OF LIFE
The real secret to feeling young is taking care of yourself. The deeper your connection is with yourself, the more flourishing you will be. Stretching bridges the link between mind and body. You can’t stop from aging, but there are many ways to ease into it. Stretching is tried, tested, and true, an ancient practice for everyone.
It’s such a powerful tool, yet so underrated and overlooked. The results are both immediate and long term. Stretching can be both an exercise and/or a wind down. The benefits from stretching are incomparable and the losses from not stretching are long term and detrimental.
YOUTH
The Fountain of Youth: a mystical spring that restores the youth of anyone who drinks it. So many people chase this ideal as they age, without understanding the depths and complexities of what “youth” really means in older ages. It’s deeper than a gravity defying face, but more expressed through an active spirit and a functional, healthy body.
MOBILITY
As you age, one of the absolute most important things to maintain is your mobility. A lot of people, as soon as they hit adulthood, the first thing they start doing is complaining about their joints or body aches. But when someone actually does reach the point of near complete immobility in old age, their vitality is the next to go. It’s a rapid decline from there. Even if you think that’s “inevitable”, if you upkeep yourself now, it won’t be as hard of a fall from grace. Stretching is the solution to this, it keeps your joints from crystallizing faster than they should.
And the positive is that there’s no age or weight limit to gaining or maintaining flexibility (or exercising!), as long as you can move. But the earlier, the better, its importance is unmatched for your wellbeing now and in the future.
PHYSICAL WELLBEING: FOUNDATION
Stretching is not just for people that are fit, it’s for anybody who wants to keep their body streamlined, and for those striving for the best quality of life possible. It’s truly a foundation of exercise. Many practices such as yoga or Pilates, are derivative of stretching, and for all other activities, such as sports, weights, etc., it can only benefit you. Our muscles connect every joint in our bodies and the ligaments that you stretch connect those. Stretching works in tandem with any kind of physical activity you do.
Stretching improves your posture and decreases tension in your body, especially from stagnant activities such as sitting or sleeping for long hours. It also improves digestion, gut health, inflammation, and healthy blood circulation, all things important to keep you functioning as intended.
MENTAL WELLBEING: BRAIN POWER
Stretching is multi-purposed and can both stimulate and relax your brain. When waking up, stretching gets your blood flowing, but before bed, it helps to reset and center, and before an activity, it warms you up. Your brain benefits from being exercised and relaxed just like every other organ in your body. I wholeheartedly believe in taking the time to stretch at least once a day, even if only for a few moments, taking that time to ground yourself.
MIND-BODY CONNECTION
Stretching keeps your body fine tuned, like greasing the cogs on a machine. But for the body to move, the mind has to will it. As you get older, your mind-body connection weakens naturally. Stay in touch with yourself and keep your mind and body alive harmoniously as long as possible.
Happy stretching hot girls!
